Fish-shaped Mini Pizzas

It’s our last kid-friendly recipe for the week and it’s a Friday, so it’s pretty much the best day ever!! This recipe is a combination of our little man Emory’s favorite things: pizza and fish. Not the fish you eat (although he does love salmon), but cartoon fish, specifically Finding Nemo. He can’t get enough of the movie and has an obsession with calling all fish “memo”.

I originally created this recipe for Kid’s Night In Box, a monthly subscription box with educational and fun themes for kids. I made it again yesterday to post on the blog, but I let the kids have them for dinner. I’m thinking next time I make them, I’ll have them help and then we can watch Finding Nemo afterwards. I think they’ll both be pretty happy about it.

These mini pizzas are made with store-bought dough and can pretty much be topped with anything your little one desires. Sliced olives can be used for eyes and artichokes for fins and tails. So easy and such a great recipe to get your kids involved in. If you end up making these, don’t forget to tag #marinamakeseats

Fish-shaped Mini Pizzas

Ingredients

  • Store-bought pizza dough or crust
  • 1/2 – 1 cup of red pizza sauce
  • 1/2 – 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Desired pizza toppings (sausage, pepperoni, olives, peppers, mushrooms, artichokes, etc.)
  • Green pepper, sliced

Directions

If using dough, preheat the oven to 400 degrees. If using pizza crust, preheat the oven according to the directions on the pizza crust packaging.

Using a biscuit cutter (or the top of a glass and a knife), cut multiple circles out of the pizza crust or dough. If using dough, feel free to only use a portion of the dough and save the rest for another time and shape the dough into more of an oval, pinching one of the sides to form a point for the mouth.

Top each portion of dough with sauce, cheese and desired toppings to make each mini pizza look like a fish. I recommend using olives as the eyes, pepperoni slices, sausage or mushrooms as the scales and pieces of an artichoke for the tail.

Bake the mini pizzas for 8-12 minutes or according to the packaging . Plate the pizzas and place green pepper slices below to make them look like waves.
