A Letter to My Second Born

To my sweet baby boy,

You stole my heart the moment I laid eyes on you. Your cry was calm, you had the cutest little lips and nose, and your demeanor was so peaceful. When we brought you home, all the three of us ever wanted to do was squeeze you. We all couldn’t get enough of you. It’s almost as if we could feel in our hearts that you’d be our little lover boy, so we showered you with all the love.

We prayed and waited for you to be a part of our family even before you grew in my womb; and when you arrived, we automatically couldn’t imagine life without you in it. You made us even more of family and drew us closer to one another. I was so nervous about how you’d change our dynamic, but you made us better. We love more with you and thanks to you, we have a blast being “the four of us”.

Your joy and zest for life is absolutely contagious. It’s evident any time we go anywhere and complete strangers comment on how cute and smiley you are. You are such a light to others, little man. You give us smiles no matter what’s happening in your day and you’ve taught us what it looks like to not sweat the small stuff in life. Your “tantrums” are hilarious because they last about three seconds and before we know it, you’re perfectly fine and distracted by something or smiling. You just don’t have time to be bothered.

You’ve taught me so much about being selfless. You’re just like your daddy; always willing to help whether it’s picking up toys, making breakfast in the morning or helping your big sister build something. You’re always there to lend a helping hand and we love you for that.

I see so much of myself in you and although you’re only two, I think you see it too. We connect and understand each other. We relate and it’s a bond I’m so grateful for. While it would have been very cool to see you grow up with a brother, I’m selfishly happy you’re my only boy because I just love you and the relationship we have.

Thank you for making our family hugs even more special by being the greatest cuddler in the whole world. Thank you for always being willing to learn from your sister and adding to the fun of her imagination. Thank you for always greeting us and the rest of our family with hugs and smiles. And most of all, thank you for being wonderful you. We love you to infinity and beyond.
